North Bend Way Railway Crossing

The Museum hired Interstate Rail Services to remove the old crossing and install the new welded rail.

Work began on the crossing with an asphalt grinder from subcontractor Gloria Jeane Inc. that removed the old surface.  It was recycled as sub grade material under the new crossing.  Bob Holt from Interstate Rail supervised.

An excavator removed native material to a depth of 32 inches.  Sub base consisting of used, finely ground asphalt was placed along with new select material.

The crossing was completely closed to traffic for three days to allow this work.  Perhaps it's hard to believe but only two days after this photo was taken, the road was fully opened to traffic!
