North Bend Way Railway Crossing | |||

Demands of weekday commuters limited the allowable length of the road closure. And at King County's request, the closure was over a weekend. To complete the project on time, the Interstate Rail crew worked nearly 18 hours per day. Portable lights were used to illuminate the work area at night creating a rather surreal environment. In the failing light of the third day, the new welded rail has been placed and spiked. Ballast has been dumped and spread on the new track. And a track tamper is busy tamping the ballast under and between the ties. A few short hours after this photograph was taken, this track had a uniform 2 degree curvature and was ready for King County's paving crew. |
